Interesting video below: apparently, the Senate Finance Committee was set to debate health care, but OOPS: on a fifteen-member panel, not one proponent of single payer health care was included. As Booman notes, “If you hold a hearing on health care and none of the witnesses support single-payer health care, you won’t have anyone explain the benefits of single-payer health care.”

And so a lot of yelling ensues, as Max Baucus suspends the committee until the police can remove protestors, who ask (appropriately enough) “what kind of sham is this?”

I’ll tell you what kind of sham it is: it’s the same sham you get when you have a two party system, and no one is motivated by anything other than protecting their seat and funding. “What’re you gonna do, vote for the Republicans?”

By the way, if anyone deserves to lose his health care and get some horrible disease, it’s Max Baucus, a thoroughly smarmy son of a bitch, and a whore for the health care death-by-spreadsheet industry. He’s a smarmy, smirky jerk:

Baucus: I think single pay – Merck is not ready for single pay. I mean, America, we are a bit different than people in other countries. We are not Europe. We are not Canada. We are America. It is “go west, young man.” It is entrepreneurism. It is creativity. It is innovation and so forth. And I think we have come up with a uniquely American solution which is a combination of public and private because we are America. I think that we would be spending capital inefficiently by trying to pursue a single pay system when we have another pathway to meet the health care reform available to us.

i hope the sonuvabitch loses his [taxpayer funded single-payer] healthcare, and gets some awful form of cancer, an then gets denied treatment due to a pre-existing condition.
