Let's get rid of Blue Shield / Blue Cross health insurance co., terrible !!!

Blue Shield of California is a terrible insurance company. I just received a letter from Blue Shield notifying of another rate increase. In one year the Blue Shield monthly premium increased more than 100%. My salary did not increase at all in one year.
Why do need the insurance companies in health care. Let's get rid of the insurance companies once for all. I am totally in favor of Single Payer Health Care system.

Please do not do business with this company. In retrospect, I would have rather presented myself as uninsured and worked out a payment plan. Instead, they bickered with the providers for over a year, demanded office notes (yes, they wanted to know conversations I had with my doctor), and gave various other reasons why payment was delayed.

Now, they have received a year and a half of monthly payments of $187 and have paid a total of $120 to my providers. Provider have sent me into collections within two weeks of Bc/bs deciding not to pay.

Thruout the year I have spent many hours on the telephone with both this lousy excuse for an insurance company and each provider - to no avail.

I have filed a formal complaint with the state of Tennessee but have yet to see it on the www.naic.org website. This is where I go to compare companies prior to making a decision on committing to one or another.

I fell down some stairs and broke my leg in 2 places and went to the Emergency room closest to where I was,(NOT IN THE NETWORK) at the time I was not thinking "oh yea let me check to see if there in my network" I was thinking get me to the closest emergency room, NOW because they were NOT in the network, that comes out of MY pocket and does NOT go towards the deductible..

NOW I have to go to physical therapy (which IS in the network and I still have to PAY the FULL amount until my deductible is met and they aren't EVEN going to apply ALL of the cost towards my deductible...

If you are at all remotely considering Blue Cross Blue Shield, I would recommend you find ANOTHER Insurance Company, I am! Oh and by the way, in the Last 2 years we've had this insurance this is the FIRST time we had to use it!!

BCBS is horrible. My son had to get some suggested immunizations before college so he went in and got them on his 18th birthday. BCBS refused to pay a dime towards them because the were considered pediatric immunizations (as if the chicken pox virus only infects children . . . a ever heard of shingles BCBS) and he was over 18. It was on his freaking birthday!!!!!

They suck, the whole industry sucks. Socialize primary care and get rid of these bums.

I could tell you horror stories from my exp with Blue Cross, but will keep it to my own story here.

Last fall due to rate hikes I had to go from PPO to HMO. I had an issue that needed attention so I tried to go to my assigned doctor, she was full and not taking patients. I was then assigned another doctor, which I went to.

The doctor's office verified my coverage and benefits. Fast forward several months I get a collection notice from an outsourced medical billing company. I begin making calls and find out finally my claim for service last fall was denied because I went to a doctor before I was not authorized to go until 11/1, and my doctor visit was 10/31. A supervisor at Blue Cross said they could not retro-actively make that doctor cover that time period, because I did not appeal WITHIN THREE MONTHS - even though I didn't hear a word of it until 6 months after the fact so could NOT have appealed it! I am a former employee of Blue Cross and I know how these things work.

Apparently even if your assigned doctor is NOT TAKING patients and won't see you -- you basically have NO coverage unless you go the ER (and there are hundreds of dollars there, needlessly), because there is waiting period to change doctors - never mind that the doctor in question I actually went to WAS my assigned doctor, noted on my membership card. It is very Alice in Wonderland.

BlueCross Blueshield of Texas accepted me for health insurance in January and attached a rider for a nonexistent condition. To appeal the rider, I had to submit my medical records. Four days before the policy was to go into effect, the rider was removed, but the policy was cancelled for another nonexistent reason.

Again, I wrote an appeal, 3 pages with 13 attachments including a letter from my doctor. My appeal did not ask for acceptance of insurance. I wanted, and still want the denial of insurance, to be removed from my record. In addition, I filed a complaint with the Texas Department of insurance.

BlueCross again responded with a denail of coverage. I DO NOT WANT COVERAGE WITH BLUECROSS! I WANT THE UNWARRANTED DENIAL OF COVERAGE REMOVED FROM MY RECORD! It is obvious that BlueCross never read the appeal, looked at the attachements, most specifically the letter from my doctor. After reading the numerous complaints regarding BlueCross, I feel that I have somewhat "dodged a bullet" as apparently they are infamous for late payments and refusal of claims. In addition, my complaint with the state insurance board yielded this, "cannot compel them to change their decision to extend you coverage". Again, I don't want their coverage!

Sad isn't when the insurance company is allowed to ruin your chances of quality health care and even override your doctor's diagnosis? What's more, the government lets them do it. I will be posting my story wherever possible and I encourage anyone else to stay away from BlueCross.

And the list goes on and on

Let's get rid of Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance and all others. They are all the same. Let's ask our representatives in Washington to have a public health care system like the VA hospital for example. Let's have a Single Payer Health Care System !!!

Let's tell Pres. Obama how we wanted the health care to be changed to!!!
